2024 Magnús Ver Magnússon Strongman Classic Preview
The 2024 Magnús Ver Magnússon Strongman Classic (MVMSC) will occur in Iceland on Nov. 22-24, 2024. The annual contest will feature 15 of the world’s strongest athletes, representing 11 countries:
2024 Magnús Ver Magnússon Strongman Classic Roster
- Wesley Derwinsky (CAN)
- Kristján Níelsson (ISL)
- Shane Flowers (UK)
- Tyler Sigurdson (CAN)
- Audrius Jokūbaitis (LIT)
- Pálmi Gudfinnsson (ISL)
- Didzis Zariņš (LAT)
- Rongo Keene (AUS)
- Tristain Hoath (CAN)
- Aivars Šmaukstelis (LAT)
- Andrew Burton (USA)
- Mateusz Kieliszkowski (POL)

This is the fourth edition of this contest, and two of the three previous champions are competing — the outlier is the original MVMSC champion, Maxime Boudreault.
Tristain Hoath of Canada is the defending champion and aims to rebound from his 10th-place finish at the 2024 Rogue Strongman Invitational. The 2022 MVMSC champion, Rongo Keane, intends to reclaim the throne.
They, along with the other 13 strongmen, will compete through the following nine heavy events to crown a champion:
2024 Magnús Ver Magnússon Strongman Classic Events
- Húsafell Stone
- Hercules Hold
- Rock Press
- Carry Medley
- Sandbag Toss
- Loading Medley
- Arm-Over-Arm Pull
- Silver Dollar Deadlift
- Log Medley
A three-day contest is atypical for most elite strongman contests. For example, the contests on the Giants Live circuit or Strongman Champions League are most often single-day contests that feature five or six events.
Major tentpole contests throughout the strongman calendar also do not have a three-day structure. World’s Strongest Man is a four-day contest spread over five days, and the Rogue Strongman Invitational is a two-day contest.
That suggests that the contest is challenging on the nervous system, as any elite strength competition would be, and that it will also tax their physical fortitude against the elements while testing their endurance.
The competition will surely be memorable, with so many notable names competing in the four-time World’s Strongest Man’s namesake contest.
